Symposium 2009
Welcome to ATRANS Symposium 2009 Webpage
Asian Transportation Research Society (ATRANS) is organzing the 2nd ATRANS Symposium which will be taken place on 27-28 August 2009 at the Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel, Sukhumvit 22 Road, Bangkok.
As we all may well-aware that transportation plays a key role in mobilizing peoples and commodities from one place to another. Without transportation, lives would not be easier for all mankind. On the contrary, because of the rampant motorization, particularly, the incremental number of private cars, this contributes to significant adverse effects. A development of mass transit may considerably be an optimal solution to the problem but how this could be coped with the global financial crisis.
Hence, the main theme of the symposium is “Transportation System for Sustainable Development under Global Financial Crisis: Opportunity or Disaster?” or in Thai “การพัฒนาระบบขนส่งอย่างยั่งยืนภายใต้วิกฤตเศรษฐกิจโลก: โอกาสหรือหายนะ?”
The symposium invites numbers of domestic and foreign distinguished keynote speakers from diverse areas of expertise to share their ideas, knowledge, and experiences together with participants in multidisciplinary point of views.
Below are the tentative programs of the two-day Symposium on 27 – 28 August 2009

α ATRANS Symposium Activity
ATRANS organizes symposium yearly as part of ATRANS academic supportive activities. This year (April 2009) ATRANS has launched an attached program of the symposium so called “ATRANS Student Chapter Session.”
The ATRANS Student Chapter has its objectives to provide students an opportunity to meet one another to exchange ideas, opinions and information among themselves and learn to practice an academic activity through organizing “Student Chapter Session (an attached program to ATRANS Symposium).” This activity would allow students a rare opportunity to learn from a preparation of the event, review academic papers until evaluation and publish the proceedings to the event day in close supervision of ATRANS advisory members.
In addition, this activity also allows students to develop networking with other students from other universities in multidisciplinary fields. Most importantly, the students can gain valuable experiences and socialization which are the key for capacity building and human resource development.
The student chapter activity is totally a volunteer basis. Students who wish to be a member of ATRANS Student Chapter can apply by submitting their curriculum vitae (CV) along with the transcript to ATRANS secretariat office. Bachelor student, master student and doctoral student are eligible to apply for an ATRANS Student Chapter member. ATRANS can accept a bachelor student application, however, an application of master or doctoral student is preferred.
